The Means of Grace: Colossians
Who Grows You?
(16) Therefore don’t let anyone condemn you for what you eat and drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths. (17) These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.
(18) Don’t let anyone condemn you by insisting on pious self-denial or the worship of angels, saying that they have had visions about these things. Their sinful minds have made them proud. (19) They have lost connection with the head, from Whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.
(20) If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive to the world, do you submit to its regulations - (21) “Do not handle,” “Do not taste,” “ Do not touch,” (22) Such rules are mere human teachings about things that deteriorate as we use them. (23) These rules seem wise because they require strong devotion, pious self-denial, and severe bodily discipline. But they provide no help in conquering a person’s sinful desires.
