Letter From a Roman Jail: Ephesians
God’s Free Gift of Freedom and Grace
You are not free despite the Lord being sovereign over all things. Whatever freedom you have is because the Lord is sovereign over all things.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed us with every blessing of the Spirit in the High Heavenlies in Christ.” Eph. 1:3 (ESV and Baugh)
“In love He predestined us for adoption to Himself as sons through Jesus Christ according to the purpose of His will, to the praise of His glorious grace.” Eph. 1:4c-6a (ESV)
In salvation, all of the initiative and all of the power comes from the Triune God - there is no ground for you to be proud, you can only marvel in gratitude and praise.
God the Father: chose you before time began; (4) predestined you for adoption; (5) blessed you in the Beloved; (6) lavished His grace upon you; (7-8) provided you redemption through the blood of Christ; (7) provided you forgiveness through the blood of Christ; (7) blessed you with grace through Christ; (7) made known to you the mystery of His will; (9) provided Christ Jesus for you; (9) bestows upon you a full inheritance; (11) seals you with the Holy Spirit; (13) guarantees your inheritance till you possess it in full; (14) to the praise of His glorious grace; to the praise of His glory; to the praise of His glory!
In salvation, all that had to be done was accomplished by Jesus Messiah - there is no ground for you to be proud, you can only marvel in gratitude and praise.
The Bible is not proposing an hypothesis. God Himself is making a proposal to you. Can I adopt you?
