"You shall not steal" is crystal clear, but I do not always recognize stealing.
"You shall not steal" is absolute and angular.
"You shall not steal" allows for no favouritism.
"You shall not steal" is unchanging yet dynamic.
"You shall not steal" means that "private property" is good.
"You shall not steal" is a great protection for the poor and the weak.
"You shall not steal" applies to individuals, churches, governments - and every other social group.
Jesus will come "like a thief in the night", but He is not a thief.
Jesus said, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep." John 10: 10-11, ESV
Heavenly Father, please help me to recognize stealing as stealing. Please pour out You Holy Spirit upon me and make me a disciple of Jesus gripped by the Gospel who does not steal, but pursues living a productive and generous life as I live for Your glory. In Jesus Name, AMEN
